“Bintou, Search For Hope”

“Bintou, Search for Hope” stained glass art evokes a childhood memory of a lady in my neighborhood in Guinea Conakry. Every day Bintou sold bananas to provide food for her husband, children and family members. No matter how poor her situation was, she still made great effort to provide for her family. Her entire family relied on her for everything. Each time I think of my childhood, playing house with my friends, I think of Bintou. I think about how abusive her husband was. Bintou was often beaten by her husband early in the mornings. We never learned the reasons for her beatings. In my country, it is a belief that “whatever happens at home, stays at home.” So Bintou never told anyone why her husband abused her. I felt bad for her. The neighborhood and her family saw her abuse. It was a sad situation. she did not deserve all of the abuse she experienced.

Bintou’s story inspired my to create this wonderful glass!

Thanks for Reading :))
